Austin Spotlight :: Canopy
Over the last decade, East Austin has undergone a transformation from a sleepy residential neighborhood to a bustling arts community. The area east of Interstate 35 is now known for inventive culinary hotspots, chic residences, and sophisticated art galleries. Canopy, located at 916 Springdale Road, just north of 7th Street, is home to dozens of creatives, including Lisa Crowder Jewelry. The arts complex is a one stop shop for those looking to add to their fine art and jewelry collection while snacking on a delicious dish from Sa-Ten.
When Canopy was developed, Lisa knew that it was the sort of community that she wanted to be involved with. Her friends at Big Medium were instrumental in the creation of the spacious art galleries that showcase local talent. It wasn’t long before she found herself contemplating a move from the cozy studio that she was quickly outgrowing.
In 2017, Lisa relocated to Building 3 in the Canopy complex, moving into a unit large enough to house both retail space and a workshop for her growing team. Here she has found a sense of collaboration and support that benefits her business and creative passion. She and her direct neighbors (Modern Rocks Gallery, Keith Kreeger Studios, Son of a Sailor) regularly host open gallery nights where friends and customers gather to appreciate new works while enjoying a cold beverage.
While Lisa says that her favorite aspect of being a tenant at Canopy is the sense of community, she also appreciates the aesthetic appeal of her shop, with its airy bay doors and natural light. If you haven’t yet been to visit the retail store, plan a visit when you have time to browse neighboring businesses and grab a bite at Sa-Ten. We hope to see you soon!
